09/19/2007 MAGIC ROLLIEFLEX

Woke up inspired today.

Wandering the streets of Barcelona for the better part of the morning.
Shooting the always inspiring street art with that is created here.
Not only is the street art amazing ascetically but equally so the placement in the perfect location
and thought behind the work and what it is paired with is incredible.
Thats what happens when it's legal and promoted to create "graffiti" on public streets.
It becomes art.
Healing for injured facades.

The remainder of my day was spent photographing locations for an upcoming shoot
and doing portraits of spanish old folks on the street with my magical
Rollieflex twin lens camera circa 1950.

Ive been shooting with this camera for 10 years now.
Never has it failed me.
It is a constant companion in my travels and with me on every shoot.
Always.

For street shooting the Rollieflex is the best. It's retro style acts a conversation piece.
It always attracts the most interesting characters. 9 times out of 10 people will come to me, usually classic characters, older generation, that remember the camera from their day.
Nostalgia in their eyes.
One thing leads to another and i am creating photos of exactly the person i started my day hoping to photograph.

I swear this Rollieflex has magic in it.

I love you Rollie.
